A Different Kind of Retreat
Not a crowded classroom. Not a rushed weekend.
Just four makers, one extraordinary setting, and five unhurried days
to go deeper into the work than you ever have before.
Your Guide
What began as a simple creative outlet — wire, a basic pair of pliers, and a lot of curiosity — grew into a decades-long career at the bench and in the classroom. I've worked with thousands of makers across the U.S. and internationally, collaborated with respected names in the industry including Foredom, Durston, and Swanstrom, and taught in places ranging from Hong Kong to Canada and throughout the United States.
But the body of work is only part of it. How I teach is what matters most to me.
I meet each person where they are — recognizing that everyone learns differently — and create an environment where people feel supported, capable, and ready to move forward. My goal isn't just to help you complete a piece. It's to help you understand what you're doing, so you can keep going long after you leave.
Only four spaces available each retreat
The Studio in the Woods
High in the Uinta Mountains of Utah, the studio sits in a stillness that's hard to find — and even harder to leave. Morning light filters softly through the trees. The air feels open and clear. Time begins to slow in the best possible way.
The surroundings don't just frame this experience — they shape it. What opens creatively often begins with the environment, and here, everything is designed to support that opening.
There's a stillness here that's hard to find — and even harder to leave.
The Studio Space
Full access to a fully equipped professional studio — tools, materials, bench space, and equipment ready from day one. The log walls, stone fireplace, and windows to the forest make it unlike any studio you've worked in before.

What Makes This Different
This retreat is limited to just four attendees — not to create scarcity, but to create depth. With only four of you in the studio, everything changes.
01
You receive real, personalized attention — not a brief check-in between other students. Your questions get answered. Your work gets seen.
02
There's no one to keep up with and no one to wait for. You move through material as your understanding deepens — not on a fixed clock.
03
No competition for tools, time, or attention. The space remains quiet, unhurried, and deeply conducive to the kind of focus that produces real progress.
The Rhythm of Your Days
This isn't a rigid schedule — it's a rhythm. One that holds you, gives you room to breathe, and keeps you fully connected to the work.
Optional guided meditation to set the tone for the day — a quiet, grounding practice before stepping into the studio. The air is crisp. The light is soft. This time belongs entirely to you.
Each day includes direct, personalized instruction shaped around your skill level and goals. We cover technique, material behavior, tool relationships, and the decision-making process that separates a craftsperson from someone following steps.
Unstructured time to practice, follow your curiosity, and let the work develop organically. All tools and materials are at your disposal. This is often when the real breakthroughs happen.
Guided time on nearby mountain trails — a chance to step away, be inspired by the natural world, and return to the bench with fresh eyes and renewed energy.
Unwind in quiet reflection, revisit your work by lamplight, or share easy conversation with your fellow makers. The evenings are unhurried and entirely your own.
Beyond the Bench
The Uinta Mountains aren't just the backdrop for this retreat — they're part of it. Each afternoon we step outside the studio and into the landscape that surrounds us.
There's something about high mountain air and wide open views that clears the mind in ways nothing else can. Guests consistently say these walks are where something shifts — where a creative problem resolves, where tension releases, where the work begins to feel possible again.
You'll return to the bench with fresh eyes. That's by design.
The View From Up Here
Sometimes the most important work happens away from the bench. A long view across a mountain valley has a way of putting everything in perspective — the project, the process, and what you're really here to discover.
These walks are optional, always. But most guests find themselves looking forward to them.
Beyond Instruction
My approach goes well beyond step-by-step technique. I teach you to understand what's actually happening — in the metal, in the tools, in the process — so you can make decisions as you work, not just follow a pattern.
Whether you're forming a rivet with a hammer or soldering a join with a torch, you'll begin to understand how each element works together. And when you return home, you won't be starting over. You'll be continuing.

All Meals Included
Every meal is thoughtfully prepared so you're never pulled away from the work — or the rest — that matters. From morning French toast bakes to abundant spreads of cheese, charcuterie, and fresh vegetables, the food here is part of the experience.

All tools and materials are ready and waiting. Nothing to source, research, or figure out before you arrive.
Nourishing meals throughout the retreat so you're sustained, supported, and never pulled out of the creative flow.

How to Join
Because this retreat is held in a private home studio and limited to just four attendees, I take a personal approach to every inquiry. I want to make sure this is exactly the right experience for you.
Share a little about yourself — your experience level, what's drawing you here, and what you're hoping to step into. We'll schedule a brief call to connect, answer your questions, and make sure this is the right fit.
If it feels like a strong fit, we'll go deeper — shaping your time in the studio around your skill level, interests, and what you're ready to develop. When you arrive, your experience will already be in motion.
Once everything is aligned, you'll be invited to reserve your space with a deposit. With only four spots available, this ensures your place is held and your experience is fully prepared in advance.
Only Four Spaces Available
If you feel the pull of this, it's worth listening to. Five days of focused creation, deep learning, and something quieter — a shift in how you see the work, and yourself within it.
